     Charles L. “Charlie” Young Sr. 74, of Peoria, passed away at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
     Funeral services will be at noon on Monday, October 22, 2012, at Clary Funeral Home 3004 West Lake Avenue in Peoria, with Pastor Earnest Rodgers officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
     Charlie was born in Tchula, Mississippi on February 23, 1938, a son of Walter and Burniece (Wilson) Young. He was raised by his step-father, George Williams. They preceded him in death, along with his brother, Willie “Buster” Young; sister, Lillie Young; step sons, John Michael Tinsley and David Michael Mansfield; and three grandchildren.
     He is survived by his soul mate and partner in life, Bonnye Mansfield of Peoria; son, Charles Young Jr. of Marquette Heights; daughters, Bernice (Lindell) Young of West Des Moines, IA, Annette Young of Memphis, TN, Lori Young of Indianapolis and Denise Young of Peoria; step-son, Joseph Mansfield of Peoria; step-daughters, Angela Greene of Bolingbrook, Harriet (Harold) Younger of Denver, CO, Becky Mansfield and Symone Collier of Peoria and Alakiah Collier of Decatur; thirty-nine grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, he loved dearly, known to them as “Pops”.
     Charlie was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran and was a Golden Glove Boxing Champion, while in the Army.
     He was a good father, loving grandfather and a faithful friend. Everyone he knew had a great story to tell about him.
